"Red wine, red cars'.
That was the title in the September 1991 edition of Wine Tidings,
an important Canadian wine magazine. The same title appeared in
Prancing Horse, the official journal of Ferrari Club America,
the following year. Only in Modena could such an original comparison
be made: the red of Ferrari and the red of Lambrusco Grasparossa
di Cą Berti. This was always Enzo Ferrari's favourite red wine
and every year he gave it as presents to his closest friends.
Enzo Ferrari was a regular visitor to the Cą Berti vineyard in
Levizzano: he would turn up unexpectedly but discreetly to chat
a little to Adolfo and say 'Hello' to the children. He then chose
his bottles and might stay to taste a good piece of sausage. He
always sent greetings at Christmas and for his ninetieth birthday
it was again he who chose Lambrusco Grasparossa di Cą Berti for
the big party for the 1740 employees at his famous factory. The
Gazzetta dello Sport of 19 February 1988 relates that the menu
was tortelloni alla modenese, lasagne, zamponi and roast veal,
all of which was washed down with Lambrusco Cą Berti. The Vandelli
family look back fondly on this occasion, which is another testimony
to the authenticity, honesty and generosity of an estate and a
family that is proud of its past and upholds century-old traditions
whilst looking to the future with verve and enthusiasm.
